Ground State Electroluminescence.

چکیده
Electroluminescence, the emission of light in the presence of an electric current, provides information on the allowed electronic transitions of a given system. It is commonly used to investigate the physics of strongly coupled light-matter systems, whose eigenfrequencies are split by the strong coupling with the photonic field of a cavity. Here we show that, together with the usual electroluminescence, systems in the ultrastrong light-matter coupling regime emit a uniquely quantum radiation when a flow of current is driven through them. While standard electroluminescence relies on the population of excited states followed by spontaneous emission, the process we describe herein extracts bound photons from the dressed ground state and it has peculiar features that unequivocally distinguish it from usual electroluminescence.

Spontaneous Terahertz Emission under Electrical Breakdown of a Shallow Acceptor in Ge
The spectra of spontaneous terahertz (THz) electroluminescence at the breakdown of shallow Ga acceptor in Ge were observed for the first time and investigated. We found and characterized the emission lines corresponding to the hole transitions between the excited states and the ground state of the impurity center as well as the transitions of the hot holes from the valence band to the impurity ...
متن کاملRoom temperature midinfrared electroluminescence from InAs quantum dots
We demonstrate room temperature midinfrared electroluminescence from intersublevel transitions in self-assembled InAs quantum dots. The dots are grown in GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures designed to maximize current injection into dot excited states while preferentially removing electrons from the ground states. As such, these devices resemble quantum cascade lasers. However, rigorous modeling of c...

متن کاملLine shape analysis of electron–hole plasma electroluminescence in fully strained SiGe epitaxial layers
The electroluminescence of p-i-n diodes with fully strained Si0.80Ge0.20 /Si(001) is dominated by radiative recombination in an electron–hole plasma. The recombination mechanisms and the band gap renormalization have been studied experimentally and by modeling. In order to minimize the influence of the SiGe/Si interface regions and thus to study the intrinsic behavior of strained SiGe, electrol...
متن کاملPHOTO AND ELECTROLUMINESCENCE STUDY PHOSPHOR PREPARED BY DIFFERENT METHODS OF ZNS:CU
ZnS : Cu phosphors were prepared by using laboratory grade chemicals through coprecipitating Cu along with ZnS using H2S and thiourea. Photo- and electroluminescence studies indicate that these phosphors have better emission characteristics compared to the phosphors in which activator is externally added. Phosphors with luminescence at ~530nrn were prepared. The difference between the character...
